“How Remington failed to thrive is flabbergasting.”

A great mystery.

The brand and patents alone are worth over a billion dollars.

They still make SOME good products.

But not many people are buying hunting rifles, field shotguns etc. right now. Just about everyone who wants one has three or four already.

New buyers buy tactical. Existing owners buy tactical.

I’d bet more 9mm semi auto pistols have been sold in the US in the last 10 years than all the rest of the world combined. There’s probably more than 50 million in private hands.

About time... S&W has produced more lemons than winners in semi autos since the 30’s.

“They hit a home run with the new M&P Shield Plus.”

Aye.

And bringing back many of their older model wheel guns was a nice stroke too. Their new model 586 is a masterpiece.

All quality handguns.

Must be. My dads from his CSP days. 125 gr +P.

That’s what put SuperVel out of business.

They could sell off one of their brands for a billion. If the world keeps spinning they are dirt cheap. Still.

It was all bought at auction for pennies on the dollar...

“On July 28, 2020, it filed again for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.[9] During the bankruptcy auction in September 2020, Remington Outdoor Company was sold in parts. The Remington Arms business and the non-Marlin firearms business was sold to Roundhill Group LLC.[42] Remington’s ammunition business, brand name and trademarks were sold to Vista Outdoor.”

Defunct. An American tragedy.

Marlin survived, I don’t know if they are independent or somebody owns them.

I agree. Bought the 9 Shield Plus as my 4th handgun this spring. It strikes the right balance IMO for capacity, size, and design. I Intend to use it for my main CC as soon as I can get my permit. Signed up for an appointment in Davidson County NC in mid January, and the earliest appt.I could get was mid August!

It still makes me wonder how Remington went bankrupt but it did have the Remington 700 problem.

S&W only made one good semi auto and it was the model 41. I’ve got a 7 1/2 and a 5 1/2 both have the loaded chamber indicator. The model 39 and the 59 were dog’s from the start and it looks like they just got worse as they went a long. They’re rifles sucked as well as their shotguns. The only thing they made other than the model 41 that was worth a chit were the revolvers and to this day they stand alone. While the Colt Python was beautiful pistol it was never as durable as it’s Model 19 competition. Put to many full house loads through a Python and it started rattling worse than an old Ford. They tried to expand into markets they weren’t ready for and it cost them big time. I have no experience with their AR based rifles I stick to Colt for those but they seem like pretty good rifles.

It will be interesting to see where this goes, Ruger makes great products that have stood the time.

Remington’s biggest problem with the 700 was building a trigger that was easily adjustable to a mass of people who were careless with their adjustments. Yea I’ve heard all the stories but the only 700’s I’ve seen that would discharge from closing the action or bumping were adjust down to low and the trigger stop was adjusted improperly. I’ve shot Remington 721’s, 722’ and 700’s all of my 50 plus years behind a rifle and have yet to have a stock trigger fail. Called a man a liar to his face one day at the gun shop and then proceeded to inspect the trigger on his rifle and proved it in front of 4 people. The lacquer paint they put on the adjustment screws had broken proving he jacked with the trigger. He still claimed he didn’t do it but we knew better, he never came in the shop again.
