I wonder that myself!

After all: I prefer my soft drinks served layered: One-third cola, one-third orange, and then finally one-third Sprite - with absolutely no mixing!

Why can't the servers at McD's do that?

if she didn't like the taste she would throw it at them and each machine is auto-tuned to dispense the exact amount on the computer screen

You forgot the "S/OFF" and many will take you series.

Chain store employees are forced to follow all kinds of picayune rules laid down by bean counter MBAs in coroporate headquarters. Sometimes they send investigative "customers" into the locations to challenge the employees and see if all rules are followed. If they do it for one person, they would have to customize every order, and there would be a significant cost across the chain.

Short answer? Because the manager said so.
