The Flu when I was not quite 40 was much worse, but they did give me antibiotics and Codeine cough syrup The last time, THEY GAVE ME NOTHING, well I finagled a script for an antibiotic after 8 hours of me demanding some treatment, and enlisting family members to phone the hospital. Unless you had a secondary bacterial infection, giving you antibiotics for the flu would do nothing and in fact if you didn’t have a bacterial infection, giving you an antibiotic could make you more susceptible to one in the future. Antibiotics do nothing for treating viral infections. Influenza and COVID are viral not bacterial.

(No. I am not a doctor nor have I ever played one on TV. The MD in my screen name stands for Maryland)

It is the secondary infection that gets ya, and they don’t test for virus or bacterial. When you have pneumonia, it is logical to hit the body with all of the tools you have. Overuse of antibiotics is a danger, but on an individual level it is rare. Doctors give them out like candy to those into the queer scene.
