From some of the comments on this topic here - the answer is NO. The general reaction would be exactly as the Brookings Institute predicted back in 1958 - panic, hand-wringing, suicide, bible thumping, acute denial, shouting, screaming, end of the world, mayhem, riots, burning cities, on and on. Pretty much like what’s happening now in the US, just world wide.

The Pentagon has failed big-time regarding some kind of understanding of what we are dealing with.
These things have been messing with our military installations, particularly our nuclear facilities, for one hell of a long time...and the Pentagon still knows nothing?
Now that the "embargo on UFO discussion" has ended, the Pentagon might want to restore some of trust Americans once had in it...and tell us a little more than "we don't know what we're dealing with here."
