Legendary Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski will retire following the upcoming 2021-22 college basketball season, according to Stadium's Jeff Goodman. Krzyzewski, who turned 74 in February and is famously known as "Coach K," has led the Duke to five NCAA Tournament victories, 12 Final Four appearances and 27 combined ACC titles in tournament and regular-season competition since taking over the program ahead of the 1980-81 season.

Gettin' old. End of an era. Rumor is former Duke player and current #1 assistant Jon Scheyer (an Israeli- American), is at the top of the list for Coach K's replacement. It will be interesting to see what kind of pressure is placed on the program to pick a 'person of color' instead particularly with the craziness that is BDS afflicting so many college campuses today including Duke.

Good riddance to bad rubbish. Coach K’s Trump-bashing comments, as well as his promotion of the phony narrative about January 6 won’t be forgotten or forgiven anytime soon... at least not by me.

I’ve been a Kansas fan for 30 years. Many memorable games between Coach K and Roy Williams, then Bill Self.

Not to mention letting the lacrosse coach and those kids just twist in the wind.

He should quit now. Avoid the embarrassment of another lousy season. Article says his teams had “5 Tournament victories.”. That isn’t many.

Yeah, that was really unforgivable but was entirely ignored by the media for reasons.

Are you serious? Just getting into the Tournament is a feat onto itself. There are literally hundreds of D1 colleges and universities out there, and to be part of a 64 group, and then winning a championship among those 64, is an amazing accomplishment.

Thanks for the posts. Haven’t watched college bb in years. I never knew K was such a SCUMBAG.

No, it said has led the Duke to five NCAA Tournament victories, 12 Final Four appearances.

5 NCAA tournament victories places Coach K second behind John Wooden of UCLA. His 94 tournament wins make him first all-time along with the most Final Four appearances. Coach K has won more more basketball games than any coach in history. He is a legend. Probably the greatest coach ever.

Only UCLA, Kentucky, and North Carolina have won more national championships than Coach K and Duke. Winning 5 by himself is an incredible achievement.

As much as I hate UCLA, there’s no way any basketball coach can be rated above John Wooden. He’s arguably the best coach of all time in any sport.

IOW, 5 National Championships...

He kicked the lacrosse kids to the curb, didn’t stand up for them at all, when it was obvious to anyone paying attention they were being railroaded. I though he was trash at that moment. Coach K was certainly paying attention and in a position to know what was really going on. We certainly knew here weeks before the rest of the world did.

I assume whatever article you read meant to state, five NCAA championships. Coach K has won 97 tournament games and 12 final four appearances - also a record. Not too shabby.

Doesn’t that mean 4 National Championships? That’s enough to get him in the Hall of Fame.

Plus he is a West Point grad and Army vet.

I’d say he has done OK.

You seem to think the relationship between teams at a college like that are akin to the relationships between coaches at a high school. Coach K would not know those kids, the coach, or any of the stuff going on there.

It was prudent to let it play out.

It was a different era and it’s difficult to judge between eras, but I will try. Wooden only had to endure 16 team tournament fields and only had to win 2 games to get to the final four and 4 to win it all. Also, back then, in that long long ago era, the 16 teams selected were all in their home region. In other words, the 4 top teams in the West, played in the West region, which meant UCLA had to play Idaho 5 or 6 times to make it to the final four - easy peasy. These are the things the media leaves out when worshiping Wooden. He had a much easier task. If you put Wooden in today’s college ball era, he would be a good coach, but could never duplicate or even come close to what occurred in the 60s/70s.

I think Coach K destroyed college basketball with his “one (year) and done” strategy. He just preps them for the NBA.
The NBA should start a farm team system and leave college ball alone.

I surmise that his Army career was far different than what we experienced. His time was spent coaching service basketball teams...I wouldn't exactly call that "service to his country." There was no mention of any time spent as a platoon leader, company commander, or staff officer.

And I thought I had a sweet gig during my 4+ years in Germany...lol. My time was spent on AF bases, as my battalion's mission was airbase defense (short range, Chaparral/Vulcan). They kept moving me around: platoon leader (for 3 platoons), Systems Maintenance Officer, XO, Asst S-3, Property Book Officer, and S-4. Last two jobs were a snap, as my degree was in Public Accounting.

His coaching record speaks for itself.

Agree !
Same with college football ! Let the pros finance their farm system not the taxpayer.

Actually, the blame goes to Calipari, he started it. Duke was a latecomer to that game.
