Accident or Sabotage? My money is on the latter ( not that it’s a bad thing ).
Iranian ship-handling, damage control and at-sea fire-fighting skills are well below western standards. More than likely an internal mishap that got out of control. But of course, the Israelis don’t discourage the idea that their operatives might have been responsible. They’ve been living rent-free in the mullahs heads for decades. And I can guarantee the IRGC and Iranian intelligence are currently looking for Israeli agents who somehow sabotaged the vessel, when the Mossad (likely) had no role in the episode.
Having said that, I saw where the former amphibious ship Bonhomme Richard arrived at the breaker’s yard in Brownsville, Texas yesterday, after being towed from San Diego, where it caught fire (and almost sank) last year. Fire on a ship is a scary thing, and if the crew isn’t properly trained, it can become a total disaster in a very short time.
