Wow, tough woman. To go fro wealth to hardships,, willingly! I am just in awe of how tough folks were forced to be way back when. There was no government to run To for fi ancial help, no stores nearby to replenish the cupboards, nothing! They had to do everything themselves practically. Sure there were stores every hundred miles or so, but getting to them was a once a week, or worse, once a month or more affair, and it was a real adventure ture to get there and back fi the fami.y was lucky enough to own a wagon, or horse. If not, it was walking and carrying everything by hand. But I guess there were traveling salesmen who would make the rounds too which would be a big event.
I can’t even imagine living in a small 1 or 2 room house, way out in the middle of nowhere, with massive winds and dust storms (when those plagued the prairies fro over planting), can’t imagine how folks kept from going crazy, especially the women who had to be alone alone. I guess a fair number did. Must have been horrible sometimes, but very rewarding at times too.
