Texas hasn’t had a Gov with the balls to do this since......?
A long time.
Yep.
Our congresscritters should have stopped this but were either on board or didn't have the courage to do the right thing.
But, in the end, it was our responsibility and we did nothing.
Perhaps I’ll throw my hat into the ring....but I’m far from politically correct.
Have gun. Will travel.
In all fairness, before you start estimating your needs for this, do a terrain analysis. It radically reduces waste and increases effectiveness where deployments would help.
Other things that could be a big help. Create a “tiered” border, where the federal border (or absence of one) is just the first border. Then use eminent domain for a ‘hard’ state border.
And then a “soft” border of Blue Agave and Cholla “jumping” Cactus. This is a mean combo of desert cacti.
When Cholla attacks:

Yes, the Texas National Guard and Texas Navy should be dispatched along the Rio Grande for guard duty as contractors build the damn wall (and fence and if possible electric fence).
All Texas has to do is refuse to cooperate across the board with the Federal government, just as the liberal states do on illegal immigration. Without the state’s cooperation (through counties), think how difficult it would be for the IRS to foreclose on a tax lien. How many federal warrants are enforced with or by local law enforcement? Just end it all and see what happens.
We finish the wall, and defend it.
We use aircraft (helicopter gunships, etc) with guns to shoot anyone crossing who can't be stopped by other means.
How much have you budgeted to do this over 1,200 miles of border?
Since Texas doesn't have an income tax I'm guessing property and sales taxes are going to be pretty steep.
What would happen if Oklahoma invaded Texas? Would the state be able to defend itself without help from the feds?
Abbott has yet to really show leadership in anything. He is rather worthless as a leader. Desantos needs to show how m how its done. Florida is the real leader now.
