My dad grew every imaginable fruit and vegetable growing up. We never bought a single vegetable in over 20 years. We had every fruit tree snd even our own grape vines. Summer was a lot of work. The cases of canning went 6 feet high and there were rows of them . We made our own juices snd nectar, jelly/jam too.
And still fed the neighbors and family friends with the fresh produce.
We ate it fresh and then moved onto the canning which lasted the rest of the year.
When I was a kid and go to the grocery store with my mom - I’d see the frozen green giant ‘ broccoli and cheese sauce. I wanted it really bad for some reason. But, my mom said my dad would be more than angry if she bought it. Lol. Most kids want candy. I wanted the frozen broccoli and cheese sauce.

Your dad’s place sounds amazing! I’m hoping to turn the non-tillable parts of my land into orchards, but progress is slow. A perennial vines trellis is on my list for this year. I’m planning to use it for grapes and hardy kiwis, but I also have perennial herbs to plant underneath as a groundcover.
