We won the war on the battlefield. We were supreme. However, to keep peace in that nation always requires brutal power as that nation is not a true nation. Trump nor Obama nor Bush was willing to be that brutal power and correctly so. Once we killed Bin Ladin the logical decision would be to just go home and let them kill each other as they have for hundreds of years. It is tribal areas with only alliance to their tribe and infused with a violent religion in its classical sense.
Not all Muslim nations are like this. I lived in Muslim nations due to my work. As these nations became somewhat Westernized it tempered their actions. Oman and Egypt were great as was the UAE.
Our withdrawal from Afganistan is the only thing that I support Joe "slow" Biden on. In Afghanistan they will continue to kill each other as they have for hundreds of years. Just let them kill each other. It is not our problem. If it becomes a locus of danger to our nation in the future. We must just go in and kill the danger from the air and go home. It is that simple.
Bombs killed about 60 girls two days ago in Afghanistan. Their sin was very simple, they were going to school to learn how to read and write. As such they became a threat to the traditional male control in the old classical Muslim society. Oddly today that is the exception in Muslim nations. In tribal areas it is such today.
Actually, Afghanistan used to be pretty peaceful and decent country too. Until the coup organized by commies, which toppled the King, in 1973.
Until then Afghanistan was not exactly rich, and very decentralized, but pretty OK. The King really ruled only in Kabul, but he was respected, unifying figure to all the tribes and fractions.
I knew people who were there, and liked it. Beautiful country, nice people.
Since the coup, things just started to slide down, Soviets started taking over, several other coups followed. The opposition to the Communists grew and some fractions of it became very radical.
Civil war, now for almost 50 years!
Just remember, like all problems in last century, it was started by the Communists!
