That doesn’t help. The article says “Microsoft implant,” which means that whatever this “implant” is, it came from Microsoft. Was it a software update? I’m fairly certain MS is not in the business of shipping malware (although, their reliability makes one wonder...) I want to know what, exactly, the “implant” was.

MS has always had a reputation for rushing software products to market without getting all of the security bugs out. So, while they don't ship malware, they enable its proliferation, and it can all appear to be just an "accident". We might try all suing MS for negligence, but I expect the courts will protect them.
