Report: FBI Combed Through NSA's Trove Of Americans Communications Without Warrant Before Jan. 6 Mayhem
Conservative Brief ^ | 4/28 | Martin Walsh

A newly declassified report shows the FBI sifted through troves of Americans' communications collected by the National Security Agency without a warrant before the Jan. 6 protests to identify "far-right extremists."

Despite previous warnings that the government was violating the Constitution, the report reveals how the FBI continues to use warrantless searches for routine criminal cases

A newly declassified report shows that the FBI pursued extremists in November that would fit the profile of future Capitol rioters by tapping into a National Security Agency database that trawls and records Americans' communications.

The FBI has become the American Stasi.

Secret police that hunt down political dissidents.

The NSA needs (a) a firewall, that (b) requires top high level (head of FBI with head of NSA) approval, and (c) a warrant to breach it, and (d) that breach itself needs to be monitored by the NSA with it having the right to question how it is being done and shut it off if it goes beyond the specification of the warrant.

Didn’t it used to be correct to use an apostrophe at the end of a plural word that was followed by yet another plural, in a possessive sense?
You can tell I’m no grammarian!

Or we could shutter the NSA by just not allowing people from hostile countries and/or ideologies from entering the country.

The FeralGovernment™ has repeatedly violated the 4th Amendment without consequences either directly, or by using one of the other members of the "Five Eyes".

There is absolutely no justification for the U.S. Government to capture all electronic communications originating from here, but yet they have been doing this for years (Search "ATT NSA San Francisco" and "ATT NSA Manhattan" ), and they have a data center in Utah which seems to be capable of archiving all communications for future retrieval.

The only sure way to prevent the abuse of power is to prevent it from occurring in the first place.

The NSA telecommunications blanket covers the globe, not merely the domestic U.S., and the U.S. data components and global data components are so intertwined in the telecommunications network, your idea of removing the NSA entirely would be cutting off our face (international intelligence capabilities) to spite our nose (domestic data).

Without any evidence I would agree with you, however on numerous occasions the NSA and Intelligence Community have been caught lying, breaking the law, and using their vast SIGINT capabilities primarily for domestic political purposes, while passing all external threat intelligence through an aggressive leftist-globalist idealogical filter.

At this point supporting the NSA is supporting domestic political surveillance to safeguard globalist fascism as its primary misson, and there is no longer any reason to claim otherwise.

Guardrails have to be built around the NSA. It should not be eliminated, and if it were merely closed down, period, end of it, the DOD would have no choice but to internally resurrect its operations, for its foreign intelligence data, within the DOD. And maybe that is the first step in controlling it. Maybe the DOD could be depended on to keep the FBI’s and DHS hands off.

But they were and have failed, and there is no way to prevent this from happening again with new ones.

I for one choose liberty over safety, you cannot have both.

“But they were and have failed, and there is no way to prevent this from happening again with new ones.”

No. The guardrails were removed by executive order by Obama, and NOT reinstated by Trump, as he was warned he needed to do.

Until late in 2016 it was the NSA that decided if the FBI or any other domestic agency had the required “need to know” to look into the trove of NSA data. Obama moved that approval of a need to know from the NSA to officials within the departments themselves. Seventeen departments got their own power to look into the NSA data, without the NSA being able to demand a show of their need to know.

The head of the NSA warned Trump of this before Trump took office.
