Right now my 2 oldest have no interest in college. They know the deal.
My oldest went one semester to a four year college and hated it, even though he got free tuition because his Mom worked at the college. He quit, started taking criminal justice classes part time at a community college and got hired as an armed security guard at the university he quit. He worked there and took a CJ class each semester until he turned 21 and he applied for a local city police department and he’s about to finish up at the state academy and loves it.
My daughter wanted no part of a four year college but did want to become a NICU nurse and she is set to graduate as a nurse from a community college this time next year. My youngest is the only one who appears to like a four year setting and it’s because he has a baseball scholarship.
I have worked at a community college for over 25 yrs and the quality of the students continues to decline. The latest high school grads are the worst. Most can’t write a coherent sentence and verbal communication is sad on their part. The college it’s self would allow a dog to enroll if they thought the dog would pay, all they care about is the $$$.
When people ask me about enrolling I suggest they look into the tech fields as there is lots of money and jobs out there for HVAC, plumbers, welders, nurses, respiratory therapist etc... Some people are just not meant for a four year traditional college and shouldn’t be encouraged to waste time and money in the endeavor.
