for whatever reason, Trump made absolutely horrible cabinet picks throughout his presidency. The truth is, the president only has a modicum of control, at best, over such things.

The only way to “Drain the Swamp” is to fire EVERYONE in D.C. , close the current Fed Gov, and start from scratch.
He needed to fire the top three floors of all the investigative agencies, the whole State Dept, and the entire WH staff.
You can’t drain the swamp when you hire the swamp.
Trump was not up to the job.
He could have fired every appointed executive his first day in office. He did not.
He allowed the FBI, the Department of Justice, and the Intelligence Community to treat him like a circus clown for four years.
He did not throw a consequential counter punch against the Deep State for four years.
Frankly, he did not even try to throw a counter punch for four years.
Incomprehensible negligence.
Congress was originally to have their own means of employment back home.
Trumps original campaign was largely focused on the swamp. At the time, many voters had no real idea of what that meant. Trump himself may not have realized how all encompassing the swamp was. He probably thought that he would have more support than he did from the people around him. He couldn’t appoint anyone he wanted. He had to pick from a pool of “qualified” people. Deceptive people recommended deceptive people to fill positions. Trump accomplished an amazing amount in spite of working within a pit of vipers.
He telegraphed his punches and they were more than ready for him. The next fighter would be wise to employ stealthier tactics.

Trump failed because four years is not enough to reverse twenty eight years of Bush-Clinton-Bush-Obama.
After reading everyone’s responses, above, I think there are many contributors to this problem. Everyone’s rationale makes sense.
I heard someone on the radio the other day named Tom Rose; apparently he worked for the Trump administration in some capacity. He said that when they got there, they were treated like “Christmas help” that the whole swamp treated them as temporary employees and that the swamp did nothing but obstruct, and couldn’t wait to get rid of the Trumpers. They were shown no respect.
In retrospect, that sure makes sense. And with the help of the compliant media, they sure got their wish of ridding DC of Trump and his people.
The Swamp is too wide, too deep, too murky.

All but a small handful of Trump’s allies were treacherous spies and saboteurs.

Just like a real swamp, you can’t drain the figurative swamp from the inside. It can only be drained from the outside. That’s what a revolt is.
This is just a symptom of a much deeper issue but if on day one Trump came out and said he was wrong to call Rosie O’Donnell a pig and wished that he chose different words then we would have one hell of a different country today.
Pride has taken many victims over eternity. The United States is one of its biggest.
