"They secretly recorded the telephone call, mischaracterized its contents to the news media and then attempted to destroy the recording."
Okay, so the Washington Post ran fake quotes from a dishonest leaker.
So how did all of the other media outlets "confirm" the fake quotes?
It's unrealistic so many sources would be wrong about the same thing. It's more likely competing newsgroups spoke with the same anonymous person or people, which leads to uncomfortable questions about whether the media were intentionally manipulated and whether this is a regular occurrence.
Glenn Greenwald notices this looks a lot like the political op the leftwing DNC Media ran on Trump in 2016-2020.
He recalls the false and malicious CNN claim that Trump, Jr. had advanced knowledge of a coming Wikileak dump, no doubt provided to him by his Russian Handler.
This false claim -- which was incredibly due to CNN reading a date wrong -- was then "confirmed" by both NBC and CBS.
They all "confirmed" each other's misreading of a date!
We've seen this Political Op run a hundred times now: A Deep State operative, or a Democrat official (or both), or a neocon fake Republican with an axe to grind, tells a lie to a media pal.
Then he tells the same lie to a bunch of other media palz, with everyone claiming they've "confirmed" the original story, deceiving the public into thinking that multiple sources are confirming the story.
When it's only been the one liar, all along.
Note that the media never clarifies this. They never say, "NBC spoke to the same source who spoke to the Washington Post, who repeated her story."
No, they claim a "source" has "confirmed it," dishonestly suggesting that they went to a second party who confirmed the first party's claims.
They do this on purpose. Obviously, it would be very easy to ask a source if she's the exact same source the original story is based on. And in fact I imagine the media does ask this.
But then they deliberately hide the answer from the public.
And that's how Democracy Dies in Darkness.
Liars everywhere.
If this person recorded the president’s phone call, knew verbatim what was said in the record in, and then went to the media and lied about what was recorded then I would think that’s of some kind of federal crime.
and its my understanding the person who did this got promoted!
Dismissal is too nice for these people. I think public hanging is the better out.
So what?
I think the author of this article gives the media too much credit for ethics. Once a story is out there that supports their narrative, I doubt they bother to confirm anything. They just say they do.
If it was a crime the leaker needn’t worry about prosecution as long as Trump was the target. It was open season on him by the media, both political parties, and the government.
It is true that quotes were not accurate, but after listening to the call Trump had with investigator Frances Watson, it seems clear to me that the meaning was pretty much the same. I guess people can be outraged over this, but doesn’t it strike people as strange why Trump is calling this person in the first place? I mean, it is one thing for Trump to call the GA Secretary of State — an elected Republican official. But calling this investigator just seems sketchy as hell. What if Obama or any Democrat did something similar?
Catherine Heritage educated me pretty well in this it’s called “circular news” they all use the same sources without realizing it
I agree. And I'm not talking about just little white lies that everyone tells once in a while to keep life orderly.
We're talking big lies to the point of fabricating facts and "news" to do harm to people and destroy them and their careers, family and lives.
Friends and family I talk to about this mess with politics and the media accuse me of furthering conspiracy theories or overstating the facts or placing too much emphasis on the truth.
The fact of the matter is, I have become more and more cynical the older I get. To the point where I don't believe a thing anyone in a position of leadership, media or power says anymore.
It's become so bad, that I am skeptical right away without waiting for the facts to arrive, because more times than not, those facts are outright lies anyway.
We have lost our way in this country and have misplaced our moral compass. We're out of control.
Have you listened to the call? You can find it at the following link:
The quotes are not verbatim accurate, but the meaning is pretty much the same.
And then the person was discovered by three people but he killed them. When the democrat DA learned of the murders, he refused to bring charges saying, “They needed killing.”
Are the Republican officials in Georgia demanding the resignation of the lying leaker? Is the Republican Attorney General of Georgia planning to charge the leaker with crimes? How about the Republican Governor Kemp, has he spoken up? How about the Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger? Doesn’t the leaker work for him? What is he saying and doing? Shouldn’t he be firing the leaker? — Crickets.
How about McConnnel and McCarthy? Have they gone before the press and expressed outrage about the false accusations being used in the impeachment process? — Crickets.
Have the 7 GOP Senators who voted for conviction of Trump in the Senate now apologized for basing their votes on false “evidence”? Are they apologizing now for being mislead and demanding the press clean up its act? — Crickets.
Don’t worry folks, if you just vote Republican they will fight the Democrats, respect the law, fight tyranny, root out corruption and support conservative principles. Now, would you like to see the bridge I’m selling?
Bkmk
What interesting to me is they burned their source, and rightly so. That should be their policy, always.
