-- So? Will anyone be punished? --

That depends on what "punishment" is defined as. Similar to "accountable," the word "punished" is subjective. It means whatever the reader chooses.

The people who perpetrated the hoax persist in this sort of reasoning - they did nothing wrong, everything they did has been exposed (this is the accountability), and some have been wrongly punished (fired from work).

Here is some "old news, rebranded as new," found on Parler, attributed to General Flynn

In the underreported category: If anyone missed Maria Bartiromo last Sunday she asked Former DNI Ratcliffe at the end of a long interview about CrossFire Hurricane (CH); his response -

"there was no proper predicate for Cross Fire Hurricane (CH) to begin" ... It was a hoax, witch hunt & coup attempted against a duly elected POTUS, his administration & American Citizens.

Full quote below & link:

"I reviewed the intelligence with John Durham and Bill Barr LAST SUMMER. We went over the intelligence & we all UNANIMOUSLY AGREED there was no intelligence from the intelligence community that reflected actual, real Russian collusion with the Trump campaign but there was intelligence there it was created by the Hillary Clinton campaign and that there was NO PROPER PREDICATE FOR CROSSFIRE HURRICANE TO BEGIN." Former ODNI John Ratcliffe, Sunday Morning Futures, March 7, 2021; start at 15:26 mark.

John, why did you wait so long to let us know?

I view all of that as normal government conduct. There is no doubt it is tolerated by those in power. It's similar to giving legitimacy to illegal impeachment proceedings. Abuse of process by those who have the power.

I don't believe there is a criminal statute that covers this ground. It's up to the public to give appropriate weight and deference to those who claim to be in charge, honest, and so on.

The bigger the offense, the less likely it is to be officially recognized and punished. Government spied on Martin Luther King. The "punishment" was exposure via congressional hearings, a few volumes called the "Church Committee," fake promises that this would never happen again, and some hand wringing for show.

NOTHING the government does is honest. Nothing.

“NOTHING the government does is honest. Nothing.”

The framers of the constitution knew this. This current crop of Americans is clueless.

Your observations make sense, and as an old guy, I have seen more than one government adventure dismissed.

Doesn’t make it any easier to take.
