Heck, I have a doctoral degree.

Maybe should start billing myself as Dr. Ben Lurkin.

If there’s a formal setting involved or if the PhD person is acting in their professional capacity, then addressing such a person as ‘Dr.’ is appropriate, IMHO.

Outside of those conditions, it should be optional, and certainly the addressee shouldn’t be insisting upon the reference... that becomes self-serving and arrogant-sounding rather quickly.

There are doctoral degrees that are vital. Their holders do much to advance society. Examples of these would be a doctorate in medicine, dentistry, or engineering.

And then there are doctoral degrees that are nice (for lack of a better word). But they are not vital. Examples of these would be a doctorate in history or in French. They have value. But they are not vital.

And then their are doctoral degrees that are actually worse than useless. Number one on this list is a doctorate in education. There is no accepted body of knowledge in this field! So EdD holders just make up stuff as they go along.

Sorry for the rambling. But I spent 30 years teaching high school. And many of my classroom problems can be traced back to pronouncements from those EdD folks.

And now a disclaimer. I know some fine people with EdD degrees. They got it just to punch a ticket, and not to change the world. So not all EdD holders are frauds. But the degree itself is a fraud.

I have a Ph.D. And I actually treat patients. But I would never introduce myself or encourage others to refer to me as “doctor.” Some of my patients do, and I accept that, but that’s about it.
As for this ridiculous pretentious woman, she got by with a shabby disgrace of a dissertation that would never have been accepted by any legitimate doctoral committee anywhere, if she were not “Mrs.” Senator Joe Biden and in Delaware.

Whoppie needs to go back to the ghetto. And take the trash from the view with her. Not only is her stupidity front and center, but also her hypocricy. We listened for 4 years how Trump was allowing his family to hold positions in the WH, and the attacks they made about personal gain. Which were lies.

I regrettably started an EdD program and quit in utter disgust after a few classes. The academic rigor of the “doctoral” level classes was a joke. I had wanted to do serious research on the effectiveness of various distance learning technologies, but found the faculty totally clueless about distance learning and especially the use of technology. Sadly these same academics are now directing the new distance learning paradigm to the total detriment of our kids.

My brother-in-law has a PhD from MIT. It’s in Naval Architecture. He graduated from the Naval Academy and the Navy paid for his PhD. He’s a smart dude, got a 1600 on his SATs back when they were still hard in the 1980’s.

I tease him all the time by calling him “doctor”. Usually its something like - “Hey doctor, my tax dollars paid for you to design aircraft carriers and nuclear subs. What the hell?”

I say this because he left the Navy the exact instant he could and is now a hedge fund manager.

He makes great bank and is a staunch conservative. So Navy pukes aren’t all bad...

Press How do explain transgenderism

Joe: Transgenderism is a tax credit anybody can get.

Press: What about OAC and socialism?

Joes: AOC will be taking the place of Ruth Ginsburg. She’s got that same scrawny build and got those crazy eyes that Stalin had.

Press: But AOC is not even a lawyer!

Joe: My wife Jill can make her a lawyer. Jill has a direct in with the powers and principalities of the world. I wake and say, “Where am I, man?”

Press: What powers of the world... it sounds Satanic.

Joes; She has a doctor degree in Hot Yoga and listens to Tommy James and the Shondells backwards. I don’t personally understand it... I go to the Catholic Church. But Jill is a Virgo and is very wise on these matters.

Press: What does she wear?

Joe: She wears 70s hot pants with Rick James on it.

Press: The Super Freak guy.

Joe: Watch your language, bub.

I propose that society use “Doctor” for all those who have received a doctorate in their field. I further propose that a different term be used for medical doctors. Perhaps “Physician”????
