I resemble the Artillery officer remark, I were one (well a corporal, 13E in the Fire Direction Center. And you better know your math, or when the guns shoot, they may hit the infantry and tankers we are supporting and NOT the enemy.
And yes, there was a brief period where artillery units had hard stripe corporals in the FDC along with SP4s. In my case I was slotted against an E-5 Recon Sgt postion, when the Army brought back corporals in the 1976.
So you were gun-bunnying in the days when it was done manually as well as by FADAC. Good stuff. Lots of math.
