When I was a junior in high school, a family moved in next door...Their 12 year old daughter was deaf and even though there was several kids in the neighborhood her age, she had no one to “talk” with...
I studied the sign alphabet on my own and I started signing to her spelling out words...
She got this look of total surprise on her face and began to cry and jumped over and hugged my neck....
THAT was one of the greatest moments of my life and I am now 72 years old...

I have a granddaughter who began teaching her firstborn to sign. Neither is deaf, but it’s just something she wanted to do with her children. She learned it in highschool..like a second language.
