One winter day with temps around -14 I passed a Chevy Volt that was straining to maintain 45mph. The small lawn mower sized gas engine used to keep the battery charged was screaming to produce enough power to keep the electric motors running and maintain some charge to the battery. A pure battery driven vehicle would have been stalled at the side of the road with its occupants freezing.
