I thought that campaign contributions had to be reported if they were over a certain dollar amount. I also thought there was a maximum amount that could be contributed by any person or entity (corporation, union, etc.).
These aren’t donations directly to a candidate. People donate to XYZ Foundation, which then donates cash or services to the campaign. That’s dark money and circumvent disclosure laws.
The dark money doesn’t go to a campaign. It goes to people who can guarantee that a certain number of votes for Dems will turn up. Thus the FEC does not get involved.
Campaigns prefer that shady organizations are not directly financed by them.
