IN Vietnam the intent was to use standoff weapons, until a US jet shot down another US plane. This changed the rules of engagement so a visual verification was required. Frankly, I don’t see that rule changing in any engagement in the future. The F-35 seems incredibly ill suited to getting into visual range as it will be slower than probably any other plane regardless of how old and obsolete that plane is.
Yep. I was hoping someone would get that right, fairly early on.
