It would be unconstitutional fior a governor to appoint himself to the Senate. Prior governors who would have wanted to appoint themselves instead resigned and had the new governor appoint them to the Senate, which Ducey couldn’t have counted on with a Democrat successor.

I agree that Duchey did not want the seat at that time. He thought he would finish his term on a very high note, then defeat Enema, then we’d have two GOP senators.
Also, as I keep pointing out, in 2018 there was NO alternative to McSally. Ward had lost to her once and to McTurd once; the most powerful name would have been DeWitt, who was NASA administrator, but he didn’t want the job.
I think not naming himself was NOT due to him wanting McSally to lose, but rather to have two RINOs in.
