In The Hedgehog Review, Christine Rosen writes about technosolutionism. If the pandemic has made evident the precarious nature of the global economy (it could briefly be brought to a standstill by a single “bug”), it also showed how advanced our technology had become. We immediately found ourselves on Zoom, or other conferencing platforms, doing business, teaching class, or chatting with family and friends we were otherwise used to seeing regularly. Victims of the fruits of our own wealth and prosperity.
People fear death way more because they don’t find a reason to hope for the future of heaven. They become comfortable with life and become all the more ready to throw away the spiritual gifts and virtues which were the foundations on which they built that “wealthy” life.
My big joke is “ zoom won’t put solar panels on your house and do your electrical service upgrade !”
That being said. I just got my first job where I NEVER MET ANYONE ON PERSON ( fortune 50 company )
In this world it is very important what knowledge you have ; and how you can express that
I have defined life as being three different modes;
First is you by yourself
Second is you with other human beings in person
Third is you with other human beings with electronic media ( like zoom)
Most of us will spend most of our lives in the first mode - you by yourself
More and more in this world though number three is out stripping number two. Much more of your interaction with other human beings on this planet is going to be by visual or sound media
I am of the firm opinion that most people really enjoy this new world
Instead of having to go somewhere or they can just stay home
Instead of having to look properly dressed properly and talk to other people in person they can just do it on the phone
As a blue-collar worker I know that most of the blue-collar world is not going to change since it requires two hands to do things
Meanwhile the politicians fear any "solution" that might lose them votes, so the technocrats are hemmed in by political cowardice and we end up with the greatest bad for the greatest number.
