I’ve never heard those high numbers. I have always used 30% backed the patriots, 10% were active participants, but only 3% started out as patriots. The other 70% were Tories who backed the crown.
I think we have the same breakdown today.

If the goon squads are out, then you have your target. You don’t attack them at your home, and that is certainly not the only scenario.
The 410 shells are what my neighbor uses. Each shell has 3 metal plates and 3 pellets are some such.

Before the days of carry permits, my wife & I used to travel with a Remington 870 in the trunk.
While at an I70 motel outside of St Louis,the door kicked part way open at 3am. It was stopped by the secondary latch at the top of the door.
I grabbed the 870 standing between the 2 beds that had 4 rounds of 00 in the tube.
I racked it. As it made the unmistakable metal on metal “crack crack” sound, a womans voice yelled out, “Don’t shoot, Don’t shoot!
We be leavin’. We be leavin’,”
I heard feet running on the balcony deck. As I quickly looked outside, I saw a woman and 2 men high tailing it down the stairs to the ground floor.
Yes. Racking a shotgun does quite effectively work in the right situation.
No doubt about it.
Had they entered, they would have faced their life altering fate.
As a former/long-service Army RANGEMASTER, USAMPS “Black Hat” & retired state/federal Peace Officer, may I suggest the FIVE firearms to have in the soon-arriving time of possible or even LIKELY CIVIL DISORDER?:
1. ANY American-made PUMP SHOTGUN in 12 Gauge, with at least 50 rounds of BUCKSHOT & at least 200 rounds of #6 or #7 1/2 shot.
(MORE shotgun shells than that is a WISE plan, IMO.)
2. A .223/5.56NATO, .30-06 or .308 PUMP or BOLT-ACTION rifle, with a QUALITY 4X scope.
(Semi-Auto rifles & carbines are LIKELY to be BANNED or at least SEVERELY-RESTICTED by the incoming Biden-Harris administration & the GUN-HATERS of the Congress. - “The coming days of civil unrest” are NOT a time to buy any firearm that requires “hard to find ammo”.)
3. A QUALITY .22LR rifle/carbine, with at least 200 rounds of .22LR HP ammo,
(500-1,000 rounds is BETTER, IMO. = A REMINGTON Model 572 FIELDMASTER is “the pick of the litter”, IMO.)
4. A quality/USA made revolver in .38SPL or .357 MAG and/or a pistol in 9mm Lugar, .40 S&W or .45ACP
(I recommend that you buy a COLT’s, S&W or Ruger revolver and/or a semi-auto pistol by COLT, S&W, Browning or SIG = I would also suggest that you NOT buy any revolver/semi-auto from Overseas, that does NOT have readily available spare parts “in stock” IN the USA.)
AND
5. An “extra” 12 Gauge pump shotgun to LOAN OUT to a “gun-less” family member or close friend, in the event that an “extra gun” is needed for family & neighborhood defense.

Yeah, with those 32 round magazines I could go full GTA. :D
If the bad guy can hear the shotgun racking, you are too late, you'll never hear the 9MM round going up your nose, or hitting you in the X ring.
Every time I read about the racking sound, I think about people not being prepared to defend themselves.
Not enough training, not enough practice at the range, and NO situational awareness.
If it's your bedroom, and you are racking a shotgun so the bad guy can hear it and get scared away, good luck with that tactic.
I'd rather by aiming my 357 at the bedroom door and waiting, quietly, while the bad guy is racking and hacking and banging on the door and has no idea where I am.
We were actually having a pellet shortage around here for a while.

One thing I would recommend as a backup would be one of the modern slingshots. If you practice a bit it can be lethal on small game and other varmints. Also, it can discourage larger varmints through extreme pain. The steel balls to the head or neck area will get anyone’s attention. While it’s not a replacement for a firearm, if your state or locale has really restrictive gun laws this could very well be something worthwhile to own. Ultimately, you are responsible for what comes out the end of your gun. Be safe, be wise, and be careful.
Going after semi-automatic rifles will be high on their priority list. If the Republicans let it happen, I'm done voting. I will purposely find something else to do every election day from now until the day I die. I don't see myself raising arms though. To those of you who do, I salute you. Good luck.
