If you recall in the movie, the Scottish nobles lauded Wallace, and knighted him because he had the support of the people. At the first opportunity, they abandoned him on the battlefield, because they shared “land and titles” with the English nobility. Remind you of any American political party?

That’s what mostly happened in Medieval and European history. Kings would be abandoned and nobles would kiss ass to the winning side. And LOTS of backstabbing.

There’s a legend or story about Ike and his generals watching a movie the night before D Day because they wanted to unwind as it is an important operation. They were watching Henry VIII (or some medieval movie) and he supposedly said “what is it with these Europeans always waging war against each other every damn century?” (para-phrased)
