As a Republican who began his volunteer activities in Georgia in the 1960 Richard Nixon-Henry Lodge campaign (I was in high school and there was such a small Georgia GOP that everyone was welcome), I think it is necessary to have the courage to face the depth and scale of Tuesday's disaster in Georgia.
Many Republicans will try to avoid the scale of Tuesday's defeat, but that would be an enormous mistake.
It’s wrong to say Trump poo pooed the Virus.
He did more than anyone could have done.
He shut down the borders, built temporary hospitals that no one used, sent hospital ships to impacted cities that nobody used, he used his power to order the production of PPI and ventilators that nobody used.
He rushed two vaccines.
If you think he poo pooed the virus, then you are a brainwashed MSM drone.
Of course it did, propaganda works.
Covid is propaganda? How so exactly?
I meant the media’s portrayal of Trump’s handling of it.
I didn’t say that he poo pooed this virus. I suggested that some of us in the base did. I just think he should have said less a few times instead of more so we could all focus on the good things that you mentioned. Some of us were convinced that it was a giant hoax and were quite vocal about it-the widespread, crying about having to wear a mask, for example, or claiming that hospitals are somehow conspiring to get rich off of Covid? Or Bill Gates is trying to kill us all with a vaccine? That’s poo pooing. It’s nuts too and it got hung around our neck.
No matter what Trump said or did, the media would try to figure out how to spin it in a negative light.
Other politicians could say the same things, and you’d never hear about it.
Every day their meetings were basically all about “How are we going to get Trump today?”
It’s not complicated. Trump convinced a significant number for GOP voters that GA elections are rigged. Why would they bother to vote in a rigged election?
They were rigged. Would you prefer POTUS lie to the Ameican people about that? Trump gave the GA GOP plenty of time to fix it. Did they? Nope. That’s on them. Sorry.
he should have talked less. He (or Pence?) got us the vaccine which was the only thing he could have done but he gave the media plenty of other things to talk about. When you’re in a mine field, stop walking. He didn’t do that.
No doubt about that. once Covid started I was thinking “Katrina” immediately and how the media used a few thousand deaths against Bush and, ultimately, McCain. I knew this would be Trump’s Katrina. I’m eyeball deep in Covid on the front line. I knew what this was going to turn into. I saw where this stone was going to land as soon as it was thrown-right here without the HOR, the Senate or the Whitehouse. 2008 all over again.
I remember too when those first reports of Wuhan were coming out, and as soon as it went beyond China, I had a sinking feeling. Trump was cruising at that point, even the Democrats knew it, but it was almost like a ‘miracle from Heaven’ to them that this Chinese Plague happened.
Of course, it may not have been a ‘miracle’ at all.
I’m an ER nurse in a city that lead my state in Covid deaths during wave 1. I have been on the front line for almost a year. When it started, I think I may have had one of the first Covid patients in the county. They said he didn’t have it but I think the test was bungled. The test was not reliable back then. His symptoms were just bizarre-he had stroke symptoms, heart attack symptoms, pneumonia, fever, coagulation issues. he died. They put this guy on a plane and flew him across the country like this believe it or not. It was when Covid was just starting to enter our consciousness. I spent many hours researching Covid down to the genetic level from that point on- the pangolin spike component, the nature of bat coronaviruses, ACE2 receptor affinity, prior coronavirus research coming out of Wuhan, all of it.
Masks.... useless. Everyone I know who has gotten Covid is a religious mask wearer. They most likely make you more likely to get it.
Vaccine... it was rushed. Nobody knows the long term effects and if you develop long term effects, the vaccine manufacturer is immune from lawsuit. Also the proposals to make it mandatory are sinister.
Hospitals making more money by including Covid 19 diagnosis? That’s a fact. Deal with it. I deal with medical bills all the time. The diagnosis codes determine reimbursement. A Covid 19 diagnosis included in the billing is a goldmine.
Vaccine: You're either going to take your chance with the vaccine or your going to take your chance with Covid. You're gonna get one or the other. pick your poison. I got the vaccine. I have zero worries about long term affects. I am worried about the short term effects of getting Covid though i.e. death and I am deathly afraid of being on a ventilator. I can't wait to get my second dose so I'll have even greater immunity. If you were worried about mandatory vaccines, maybe you shouldn't have poo pooed mandatory masks so much? Maybe, just maybe if you had taken Covid seriously from day 1 (like I did and suggested repeatedly), you wouldn't have to worry about it.
Hospitals are under reimbursed by the government as it is. Medicare/ Medicaid reimbursement is notoriously inadequate. And these Covid patients require more resources to treat so why shouldn't we be compensated a whopping 20% more for their treatment? We aren't getting rich off of that, not when you consider all the expenses associated with treating a patient with severe Covid infection and the associated multiple organ dysfunction syndrome. In any other business, you could show them the door and wish them good luck. We have no choice but to treat these train wrecks and it is expensive when you consider that some of them are in an ICU for weeks with respiratory failure, kidney failure, heart failure, sepsis, pneumonia, neurological deficits, etc. It's a disaster and it's insulting to imply that we're exploiting this situation for financial gain. You will always be able to find anecdotal evidence to support whatever conspiracy theory you want to support but anecdotal evidence does not translate into wide spread systemic fraud waste and abuse.
CA voters attempted reforms like state-wide term limits and even doing away with partisan general elections trying to find more moderate candidates and it was all for nothing.
I don't see how we'll see another Republican president unless Biden/Harris really F's things up. Even the electoral college system has failed to protect us. They'll go ahead with trying to make DC & Puerto Rico states making GOP congressional majorities improbable at best and virtually impossible.
I left CA about ten years ago and settled in GA. Now "red state" GA is bright blue. I have some interest in Texas but I know Texas is at risk of going blue as well because of Houston, immigration and now the exodus of big tech from California.
