Great “AntiFA-catcher” -— take off on the “cow catchers” as they were called on old day steam locomotives— the giant wedge at track level that threw the cows off the locomotive— killing them as they did.

One hell of a rig for a truck... stand clear... idjits.

Wow—makes sense, it is a capacitor that stores voltage/Amps to crank the car, hopefully with enough juice to activate the alternator which then takes over in the starting/running sequence. have to take a look at this, useful in farm tractors and machinery.

Good info. Most drivers are not aware of the need for a battery to have enough reserve capacity— as you describe. The powertrain computer has to be energized, and send a signal to the alternator to “kick in”. Battery too flat— the Li-Ion will not be on long enough to do this, then cut off. Scary thought— an Li-Ion battery explosion.

You should have gotten the Sync just to play with the Mercury like back in Science Class days.

I've done sets of 2 Su's and 4 Zenith-Stromberg's and 2's, 3's & 4's of Weber 32/36 DGV, DGEV, DCOE & DCOH over the Decades. With a Uni-Syn and the proper adapters to fit certain Carbs.

Spent hours fixing what others messed up trying to save a few bucks.

I've watched an Old Crusty Brit Mechanic do 2 Su's with a piece of Vacuum Tube on the Vacuum Port and His ear on the other end of the hose. When He finished He told Me to put "that fancy a$$ed toy tool of yours on them and check Me." I did and He was Spot On. Very impressive.

The fastener remover I mentioned is like a bent screwdriver with a claw on the end. Lisle makes one.

If You remove Door/Interior Panels a bunch this is worth the price. I spent many hours using one of these when I turned wrenches for a living. Never damaged a Panel or the plastic/wire clips in the 12 years of almost daily use mostly on Jaguar & Rolls Royce but also many Domestics as well.

Back when I bought mine it was probably 1/2 the price but that was back in the mid-80's.

Yes Sir, Practice, Practice, Practice.

That ear tube deal does put the hurt on the Ear Drum if the hose end is at the Earhole and makes a seal. I only did it once and went back to My Uni-Syn Tool exclusively after that one time.

You got Yer Keg all chilled down for later tonight ?😈

Actually, a really good commercial driver does all that, too, if he wants to work at his trade for a long time and draw high wages. I know a couple of them. These guys make the ordinary citizen to whom the auto is just a convenience look like terrors on the road, which they are, relatively speaking.

Ah! Probably this one:

Right?

Most of what I work on has a screw in that center, not just the pop up, but I’ve seen those too, where that would be a useful special tool.

Thanks for the thread. Ordered a Autowit Supercap 2 this evening. Scotty Kilmer recommends it, too. Had to put my car battery on a charger yesterday and wait a couple of hours. The starter just clicked, so this device would have saved me more than an hour getting to my appointment.

I’m talking about severe water in gas situation. Like from a faulty seal on gas station’s tank lid followed by a thunderstorm. I lost an engine to water-in-gas this past August. It blew the head gasket between #3 and #4. So much water in the fuel the friggin plugs were rusted.

You heard of the trick of boiling a battery to restore it? Basically, using a 40 Amp or greater Engine Start cycle for 15 mins, rest 1 hour, repeat 3 times.

I first did that in the 80s on a battery salvaged from a wrecked sail boat. It’d been sunk under sea water. That process restored the dead battery and I used it for years in my car.

This is what I use now:

Pays for itself with 2 recovered batteries.

They will tell you if your alternator is the issue and the battery is a victim. Used periodically like quarterly it’ll show the battery is becoming more sulfated.
