Rather than studying what we are interested in while in college, we take classes that will “lead to a good job at an established company.”

The funny thing is that if I had free rein to choose my classes in college I would have taken a few more technical classes instead of the liberal arts classes I had to take to make me "well rounded". I don't recall any history majors taking semiconductor physics although science and engineering students had to take English, history, psychology and such.

Right, learning about Shakespeare is critical to your life. Someone knowing how electricity is made is not.
