Rather than studying what we are interested in while in college, we take classes that will “lead to a good job at an established company.” The funny thing is that if I had free rein to choose my classes in college I would have taken a few more technical classes instead of the liberal arts classes I had to take to make me "well rounded". I don't recall any history majors taking semiconductor physics although science and engineering students had to take English, history, psychology and such.
