They did not just anticipate the situation we are in, they expected it and installed a series of checks and balances to prevent the kind of election rigging we are seeing today.
They lived in an era of political intrigues and fully expected a strong foreign power to try to steal the elections to take control of the relatively weak and vulnerable American colonies.
They would probably be very surprised at how few stolen Presidential elections we have had had to deal with over the last 250 years.
