Even the common cold or influenza can do that
Keep your toothbrush on the opposite side of the toilet. Change frequently
And has much as guys hate it close the lid
Just things to keep you safer
I believe the virus is real and serious. But so is heart disease and cancer and diabetes and pneumonia. All of them have the chance of long-term medical issues. We don't stop the world because things are bad. And I don't fret over what is or might have been. Life is life. It's not dress rehearsal for some third act to come.
And I don't plan on getting the corona virus vaccine. The survivability of this covid is 99.8%. The odds are better if one just doesn't take the vaccine and takes their chances with the illness itself.
What's the point of wearing a worthless mask, social distancing (which is not a real medical protocol) and locking ourselves down in our homes if the virus is not going away? There have been other viral "pandemics" in my lifetime and most people barely knew they existed.
I was in college and my first year in the military when the Hong Kong flu was at its peak. Killed something like a 150,000 people. No masks, no social distancing, no lockdowns, no nothing. It was barely mentioned in the press. Some people got it and got sick and some died but most people didn't and continued living their lives. It wasn't the focus of everything in life.
Go ahead and be sad that some people don't take your fears seriously. I don't care. Stay indoors, wear a mask, don't get close to people and see how happy your life will be.
I have not worn a mask since this whole thing started early last spring. I don't social distance. I don't stay indoors. I'm old. By now the CDC thinks I should be dead. When, in fact, I haven't been sick at all this year, I don't know anybody who has this covid or has had it or who died from it. That's strange to me since the media makes it sound like it's everywhere. I just live my life as I always do. I go about my business and don't watch or read the media about how scary things are.
So I didn't play into the hands of the dictatorial governors and mayors. The backlash against them has already started. I'm surprised people fell for their control tactics so quickly and didn't come to the realization that they were being gamed or played by their democRAT politicians sooner.
And then you have numbskulls like Bill Gates, who will benefit financially from the vaccine, telling us that restaurants and bars should stay closed for another 2 years "to be safe". He obviously doesn't understand that people have to make a living to pay their bills. He should spend his time fixing the viruses in his Microsoft software that have plagued computer users for years instead of advising us on this virus.
Iffa, woulda, coulda, shoulda consumes many peoples' lives but not mine. I tend to take the advice of the lead character, Tim Robbins, in the movie the Shawshank Redemption:
"Get busy living or get busy dying."
Our friend’s father died last night. We just got the text messages this morning.
My point is that the virus has largely been politicized, with many Republicans (and most on FR) “downplaying” the virus, and many if not most Democrats taking it seriously.
That’s insane. If we had just ALL pulled together from the early days (like Taiwan, Hong Kong, New Zealand and many other countries did), we COULD HAVE avoided the lockdowns, not gotten up to 17 million plus cases and more than 300,000 dead Americans, not crashed our economy, not lost a pretty important election (since the left used rampant COVID as an excuse for mail-in voting, leading to massive fraud), etc.
The fact you haven’t (apparently) caught it yet is like saying you’ve been enjoying a nice game of Russian Roulette and that somehow proves there are no bullets in the gun. At some point, most people who are not taking precautions and who are downplaying it WILL catch it. Some will die. Some will have long-term health consequences. Many will probably get over it with nothing more than “bad flu/bad cold” symptoms. While that’s all individual choice, just letting the virus run rampant and spread wildly throughout society so that people who ARE trying to avoid it basically can’t short of staying in their houses for the next several years - is not very considerate of others IMHO.
Bottom line - I’ve been really surprised and candidly disappointed that we’ve somehow managed to politicize this thing vs everyone coming together to minimize and hopefully beat it. We have enough issues dividing people..there should be SOMETHING that we can all find common cause in defeating, and this sure seems like a pretty good one to go after in that regard.
I don't believe the 300,000 death figure. The CDC themselves claim that only 6% of the total reported deaths are really deaths FROM covid. The rest of people who died of other maladies and comorbidities WITH covid. That makes the real death toll more like 18,000, not 300,000.
Plus there are significant financial incentives for doctors and labs and hospitals to code deaths as covid. A friend of mine said her husband who had lung cancer for months and was deteriorating fast, died in November. He also had diabetes and heart disease. Lifelong cigarette smoker. She had him tested for the virus once every two weeks. He was always negative. But when he died, the hospital coded his death on the death certificate as covid. I wouldn't trust the numbers the government is handing out if I were you.
And I don't believe the numbers for all of these "new cases" either. My wife has a friend up north who had made an appointment for a corona virus test. But she cancelled the appointment and never took the test. A week later, she got a letter claiming she had tested positive.
The test people take for this virus is notoriously unreliable. 80-97% are false positives. So much for the ramp up in new cases.
Yeah, doing nothing means that some people will catch it and some will die but my point is that most will not even know they have it and most will not get sick and most will not die.
And I'll wrap this up by saying that I am not going around doing what the government tells me to do to keep someone else for getting their feelings hurt. As a former hospital administrator who was responsible for buying the masks for the medical personnel in the hospitals I worked at, I can tell you that masks are meant to preclude the spread of bacteria (big bugs) not viruses. The masks that people wear are worthless to stop this virus.
And as far as lockdowns go, this virus is inert. Dead. If you think staying in your house and wearing a mask is going to eradicate it, dream on. The virus is here and will always be here. When people go back outside their homes, the virus will still be there. It's not going away.
Arguing with people like you, who are convinced that what the government tells us is true, reminds me of the global warming people who try to scare you into thinking they can stop the earth from warming, cooling or whatever their latest story is if you just give us all you money now.
Enjoy your scary world where you think that "if we would just all get along" the outcome will change.
Guess what? It won't.
Sorry to hear of your friend’s loss.
Thanks for proving my point. The virus IS politicized, with most on the right (not all of us, obviously) thinking it’s mostly bullshit.
Sorry to hear you don’t believe the numbers although I also agree that there’s “some” false positives AS WELL AS false negatives so it probably roughly balances out..
And FWIW, no, I don’t “just believe everything the government tells me”. Far from it. But as I have the time to do so, I’ve also studied this thing pretty in-depth since it all began - and I’ve paid close attention to all the reports of people in their teens, twenties, thirties, forties, etc getting absolutely wrecked health-wise (if not outright dying from) this, so when I come to FR and see the “but, but, but, it ONLY affects people over 80 or those with co-morbidities!” (which, BTW, is 40+% of all people over 40), it makes me a bit crazy because that’s just plain not true.
Anyway, discussing/debating/whatever COVID on FR where the groupthink on COVID is very strong is like beating one’s head against the wall violently - and since it appears there’s no convincing you or most of the FR crowd on this, no sense continuing the discussion further..
Have a Merry Christmas!
"CDC data also show that Americans, regardless of age group, are far more likely to die of something other than COVID-19. Even among those in the most heavily impacted age group (85 and older), only 10.2 percent of all deaths since February 2020 were due to COVID-19."
Glad you think you can have a Christmas because Fauci, et.al demand everyone stay at home with no family.
Merry Christmas.
New counting machines from Dominion. ;-)
One of the men was the first to become sick and he was fairly sick. He kept most the details to himself including severity. I thin this is due to him bringing it into work to begin with and not going home even though he was vomiting and had other intestinal problems.
He is not terribly popular these days.
He is just coming back after a 15 day quarantine but won’t say how bad he had it. I have no idea if he was hospitalized. But I think I heard it went through his family and that they all live together.
The second guy is the first man’s supervisor. First time he had light symptoms and recovered fairly quickly. This time though he is really in rough shape. He keeps in touch with us and gives us updates. He was hospitalized last I heard. His two children and wife have it now too. The wife is pretty bad, the children not too bad.
Another supervisor had it and he was out for three weeks. He didn’t take much of COVID seriously but after what he went through he sure as hell does now. Stated the week long fevers with soaked sheets, having to be helped to the bathroom every time he needed to urinate and being dehydrated was horrible. But that was just part of the misery.
Another guy tested positive who worked with the first infected man and he was simply a carrier. Never had any symptoms.
I have been tested three times, all negative and I pray to God this stays as such. I am overweight and was for a good part of my life a heavy smoker. I smoke a little these days but the damage is already been done to me.
It has been known since last February from the Diamond Princess cruise ship data that 50% of the population has a natural cross immunity to the virus. That means that a lot of healthy people who do not need the vaccine will get it.
How do you KNOW what these four people in your community ACTUALLY passed from?? I also think this is BS and I SEE government rule creeping into our way of life and feel like we are being CONTROLLED by China!! Censorship has become predominate, our churches have been closed down, only businesses deemed necessary by government remain open, our schools are closed, our freedom of speech has been neutered, our elections are NOW fraudulent, tell me ONE DAMN THING that is different than living in China or Venezuela!!!
Well I don't know about shaking hands anymore. The last couple times I tried it (habits die hard), the other person recoiled in horror. So that pretty much cured me of initiating a handshake for a while. Maybe forever! Many women that I know still like to hug so that's okay by me. But I let them initiate that.
But like you, I'm out there pretty much every day. Up until the middle of March, I was taking the train to Manhattan every day and even riding the crowded subways from one client appointment to another. Since then, I still go into Manhattan at least once a week. Never got it.
Now unfortunately I've had some deaths among family and friends, purportedly due to this Chinese COVID thing, but in all cases, they were not that healthy to begin with. Typically they would have underlying conditions like diabetes and were on a regular dose of prescription pills.
Now this is likely not to be a popular opinion here but I think the United States medical system has done a tremendous job keeping people alive that otherwise would have been dead by now. Some people take so many prescription pills that they need special trays to keep them sorted out and phone apps to remind them when to take them.
Now this virus is on the loose and those seem to be the people most affected. Personally, I think people need to get out into the fresh air every day (and without those confounded masks) and exercise. Staying indoors and hiding is not good for these people. Get some vitamin D, eat healthy and interact with other people. And get off as many prescription drugs as possible.
You figure about 1 in 100 are going to die. So if you know 100 who you KNOW had Covid only one will die.
Maybe that’s part of my deal. My job is sales related but has me outdoors a lot. Soaking up the sun.
Thank you for your detailed reply. I know of only one person who’s had it twice. First was rough, second time not bad.
There was an interesting report early on that nicotine seemed to keep covid symptoms less severe. This study was done in France and I don’t know if any more have been done.
