“Yes, they do. My dad had minor damage from a tornado in FL 20 years ago. Filed a claim. The next year Farmers would not renew his policy.”
Non-renewal is not a cancellation.
Lots of insurance companies have been pulling coverage in Florida. My mother had like four non-renewals in ten years and she had no claims.
My brother inherited the house and the insurance was provided by a company servicing the state pool. No choice on who you get.
We were concerned when he got hit in 2018 but the company stepped right up and serviced rapidly and professionally.
“Good luck with that, been insured with USAA for 45 years and just got a cancellation notice for a roof claim that they wont pay on.....”thanks for trusting us blah blah blah. F%^$ bastards....”
The rest of the story?
Doesn’t matter if it’s a “non-renewal” or a cancellation. No insurance is no insurance.
One expects that you pay for years with no claims then one incident and they “cancel” you. F em.
Yup. I had USAA in FL during the last huge hurricane cycle in 2004-2005. USAA didn't cancel folks, least I know, but they did stop writing new policies for awhile.
>>>Call Jake. Tell him I sent you<<<
Which Jake, the old Jake or the new and approved Jake?

One minor claim in 45 years and they ‘cancel’?
The rest of the story ...
HA! I know more than one person that has happened to. State Farm is also notorious for cutting a low ball check and suckering people to take it as a final payment. I have had two such run ins with State Farm on non fault auto accidents where they tried to pull it on me. Both times I refused and let my attorney or Geico my company handle it.
So they didn’t cancel you even with multiple claims!
My brother had three major claims on his trucks.
1. ‘Parked’ in front of a dumptruck going 50 mph.
2. Someone keyed the sides
3. Hurricane damage in 2018.
I don’t remember the first but for the last two, he notified the agent, claim confirmed and he took it to their authorized Nissan body shop. SF paid the check to Nissan auto shop. Full paint job both times.
“HA! I know more than one person that has happened to. “
Given that those actions are illegal, I say BS.
Say what you want my own insurance company Geico had to go after State Farm on one occasion on the other my attorney handled it.
“Geico had to go after State Farm on one occasion”
Subrogation. Happens all the time.
Yes it does happen all the time just more often with State Farm. Its just a crappy insurance company.
There is no correcting it. I am cancelled. I cannot clean up a construction site.
They told me it was a done deal. They don’t want my business.
State Farm cancelled my parents insurance after 24 years. My parent’s had a hail storm hit them. STATE FARM paid for the new roof and dropped them. This was their only claim that whole time
I have SF.
Second house hit by lihtng second week of July. Finally getting round to cleaning up the mess. It has been hard. It was the home Dad and I built and the family grew up in.
Retired big city fire marshall did investigation. Found where lightning had hit solar hot water heater. Power company lineman came out while investigator was there to replace the pole fuse knocked out by lightning a day before the fire. There had been no power in the house at the time of the fire. It had smouldered for a day and a half.
Covid prevented adjustor visit and they wanted me to do it. Absurd I said and called my agent. Glaring conflict of interest on my part to have even attempted to adjust the claim. My agent had been out morning after fire while ruins were still smoking so he had already primed the pump for total loss. He took care of it all even though he was doing cancer treatment at the time.
Total loss, claim paid to the limits of my stated coverage. Renewal must have crossed in the night as fire took place at same time of renewal. Paid full premium and got return premium for burned house later.
I have expected to be cancelled and may with the next premium period. Time will tell I guess.
I agent shopped and think I got a good one. As for SF, same as all others, any will cancel you. My agent is a small rancher like me and understands things like non-towed trailer insurance, tractors, cow liability, farm helper WC and so forth.
I’d sure rather not be cancelled. I’ll call my agent again tomorrow to revisit this subject now that he and his wife and some office staff are recovered from daVid.
I also guess messy yard has more to the story he should tell.
I think I am lucky to live in arural area but would never do business with an agent that I have not interviewed.
My agent got off on a good foot when we moved here and I told him I wanted an insurance review, bundled coverage and an interview and I would come see him. He said you’re the customer, I’ll come dee you. The guy is 72 and has had his shop open for decades.
I went to his office in a town 25 miles from us to write the policy and meet his staff. Including the fire I have made one claim for hail damage to my truck 45 years ago. I don’t plan to use insurance but I pay a lot for it. It is now my third highest single expense
Pay close attention:
You WILL NOT be cancelled...’unless’ you file a 2nd claim in 3-5 years. When I write ‘claim’, I mean ANY claim. Even for a laptop or bicycle.
Heed my advice, especially with SF: Be very careful to not have any contractors work on your property without their own insurance (ask for a “Certificate of Insurance”), don’t hold any events with a group of people and take precautions against any kind of loss against your HO policy, including theft. If you have teenagers, have a very, very serious sit-down talk.
Very sorry about your house (obviously ‘act of God’); I’d hate to see you experience insult on top of injury (I’ve unfortunately seen it several times).
