Some in this forum may protest, "but the optics or that's just what they want, or even Quaker based nonsense", yet both Lincoln and Truman faced the same and both shouldered the burden in service to the Republic.
We are currently in perilous circumstances in which a civil war has all but been openly declared. A different kind of war to be sure with different tactics but war nonetheless.
While the Civil War still being fought, Lincoln stated the clear and present danger to the Republic,
"...Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and dedicated, can long endure..."
We've arrived at a similar juncture...
