They landed in late 1620. They had time to build a long house and shoot some deer. Then they started dying.
They did not get a crop in until the next year.
At best, the first harvest celebration was in 1621, and wasn’t as formal as some people think. It was a celebration that kind of got out of hand. The wamps showed up with a bunch of people. They went out and hunted down some deer.
Think of a party where some friends show up, and then a bunch of them run out to the package store and grocery store to feed the rest of the party.
It was not a planned, solemn occasion. It was a party.
Not a bad thing...but it has been turned into this “event” that it simply wasn’t.
