The “Beetle” was invented by man named Gantz who was Jewish and fled to Austria and I think ended up in Switzerland and was never compensated for his loss of the Beetle design or the pioneering work to be put into the VolksWagan.

I do not think the story is apocryphal that Hitler, fancying himself a student of nature, instructed his engineers to "look the nature, look to the Beetle". I did not mean to suggest that Hitler took ruler and pencil to the drawing board and worked out the schematic, only that he commissioned a people's car, and that he inspired some general guidelines.

The Beetle shape was chosen because of its aerodynamic shape.
