Robotic barges should pre-position redundant stockpiles of shelters, supplies, power sources, vehicles and robots (and probably start up farms); before any people land to occupy a Mars base.

With current rockets, it is a two year trip, each way - and even that only within certain launch windows.

The kind of propulsion in this article could make Mars much more feasible, and much more survivable.
