CNN's Cillizza Memory Holes Biden's Debate Pledge to End Oil Industry
Newsbusters ^ | October 24, 2020 | P.J. Gladnick

During the final 2020 presidential debate on Thursday, Joe Biden made what is perhaps the biggest gaffe in the history of such debates by pledging to bring about the termination of the entire oil industry. As a result, on the following day, the Biden campaign was forced to perform damage control which you can read about in many outlets such as Politico and the Washington Post. Their lame spin is that Biden really didn't mean to end the oil industry, just the subsidies for it. Of course, if you read the transcript of what Biden said, it is obvious that he wanted to both end the oil industry as well as the subsidies, not just the subsidies only.

Therefore it is surreal for anyone writing an analysis of this debate cataloging in detail the "hits" and "misses" that this more than obvious "miss" would be, well, missed. However, when you realize that the one keeping score is none other than the over-the-top Democrat cheerleader at CNN, Chris Cillizza, perhaps it is understandable since he long ago lost even the slightest shred of credibility.

Joe would exterminate carbon fuel related pollution and jobs by 2035.

100% gone

Junk your 2020 CO2 emitting pickup, and your 2022 one too. Scrap metal value.

The only question is when his carbon taxes would start.

It wasn’t a “gaffe”. It merely was a statement of his commitment to the leftist agenda. A gaffe??? Methinks not.

“””Their lame spin is that Biden really didn’t mean to end the oil industry, just the subsidies for it.”””

And exactly what are those ‘subsidies’ that the oil industry is supposedly getting? I would really like to know. Details please.

Is the media claiming the ‘depletion allowance’ is a subsidy?

Well, all of the extractive industries get a depletion allowance.

Depletion allowance is the deductions from gross income allowed investors in exhaustible mineral deposits for the depletion of the deposits. The theory behind the allowance is that an incentive is necessary to stimulate investment in this high-risk industry.

Or is the subsidy depreciation and amortization that every company gets?

Depreciation and amortization is an accounting technique that enables companies to gradually expense various different resources of economic value over time.

So again media and Joe Biden, exactly what are the subsidies that the oil industry gets?

If we want to talk about subsidies, let’s have a discussion about the wind and solar subsidies that they get from each consumer of electricity.

Or how about the subsidies given to electric cars who are not paying any taxes to use the highways funded by the gasoline and diesel taxes paid by the oil industry.

The last I checked, the subsidies were legitimate tax deductions. Less taxes equals a subsidy in their book.

Democrat says something outlandish.

Liberal media - "You didn't really hear what you just heard. Let us interpret it for you."

Republican doesn't say something outlandish.

Liberal media - "We'll twist his words to make it sound like something we want you to think he said."

Here is a link to solar power subsidies—

“Congress needs to stop these massive subsidies that are siphoning $39 billion a year from taxpayers,” he said. “If solar is ever going to be a viable energy source and industry, they need to wean themselves off the public dole.”

Here is a link to wind power subsidies-—

https://www.ewg.org/energy/22777/federal-energy-subsidies-what-are-we-getting-our-money

The main drivers of wind and solar power among federal policies in the past decade have been the production tax credit for wind and the investment tax credit for solar. The production tax credit is a per-kilowatt-hour subsidy for generating power that applies to any wind project. It phases out at the end of this year ..

As long as we can end the subsidies for wind and solar while we’re at it. Also , as I’ve said before , think of our power needs like a cake. All wind and solar can ever hope to be is the frosting.

Without subsidies wind and solar would not even be the frosting.

With oil prices at $40 per barrel and natural gas at $3 mmcf, wind and solar cannot compete.

We all need to remember that it was Trump who removed the regulatory hurdles and lawsuits imposed by Obama and Biden that caused the United States to become TOTALLY self sufficient energy country. And because of Trump the USA is no longer held hostage by the Middle East and Russia when it comes to energy supplies. There is a reason gasoline is $2.00 per gallon today and that is Trump.

Cilliza’s complete column of hits and misses is good comedic reading.

Not only does he ignore the oil industry gaffe, he doesn’t credit DjT for squeezing it out of Joe, nor for his “Who built them Joe, who built them.” (Cages)

The Moderator did her best to cover for Crooked Joe, by trying to "wrap up", but fortunately The President persisted and pointed it out to Texas, Pennsylvania and Oklahoma!

Wouldn't you have loved to see "Heels Up" Harris' reaction when Joe said that! I bet she was ballistic!
