"Democracy was not a bad idea."

It has always been a bad idea. When various Ceasars took power from the Senate and gave the mob free bread and circuses, it was the opening to the empire's downfall.

Hitler did not take over Germany by force."

Correct, he promised a better fatherland for everyone after Germany's defeat in WWI. Translate NAZI to English some time. Ironically, many on the left compare Hitler's speeches and policies about nationalism To Pres. Trump's America first position (nationalism).

Can you tell me the difference? I'm sure most who call Trump a Nazi, Hitler, Mussolini, fascist, tyrant, dictator, et al, don't know the differences.

Pure democracy is mob rule. if you re-read the post, I interpret the comment as democracy as it is currently practiced in America, because it discussed what has happened in America, which has NEVER been mob rule.

America is a constitutional republic with a democratic voting system that allows the people to change the leaders and thus the laws under a very strict guidelines.

NAZI = Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei (English: National-Socialist German Workers’ Party); they officially used the acronym NSDAP.

Trump’s America first policy is similar to the others you mentioned, but it will never involve him becoming the supreme dictator without the checks and balances on his executive authority like exist in America.

Thank you for you service. My dad was the engineman (diesel mechanic) on a wooden hulled minesweeper and transport during the Korean war.

He described what sounded like the funnest job in the navy. The sweeper had large scissors that extended out beyond the hull. The mines would float, but were chained under the waterline for obvious reasons.

The scissors cut the chain and allowed the mine to come to the surface safely away from the ship and the wooden hull did not attract the magnetic ones.

The mines were rusted WWII junk that were not safe to mess with. The lucky sailor got to shoot the mine with a BAR until it sank or exploded.

My dad got a ribbon for being in the Korean theater, but his ships were never attacked. The transport must have been in waters controlled by friendly naval and air forces, and the sweeper took him all over the pacific and atlantic.
