The 20,000 km long flight took place from the Engels air base in southern Russia, via the Barents Sea to the central part of the Arctic Ocean, over the Northern Sea Route towards the Pacific with return over Siberia back to the airport.
World record for this type of aircraft, according to the Defense Ministry.
The two Tu-160 supersonic long-range bombers made three mid-air refueling from six Il-78 tanker planes during the 25 hours flight. After flying north to the Barents Sea and the central Arctic Ocean, the plane flew over the Kara, Laptev, East Siberian and Chukchi Seas as well as the Pacific Ocean in Russias Far East.
For parts of the flight, the bombers were followed by Su-35 fighters. The Defense Ministry in Moscow also confirms that foreign aircraft followed the planes for part of the route, but did not specify the origin of the foreign planes.
The previous record with Tu-160 aircraft was set in June 2010, when the duration lasted for 24 hours and 24 minutes.

This is an asterisk (*) record if the crew did not participate in racial and gender sensitivity training.
The USA was flying bombers around the world in the 1950’s. Nice that they caught up some 70 years later.
Back in the ‘50’s.
Bus stopped 3 houses from my home and right in front of the theater.

The plane that built Fort Worth.
Agreed. However, both the Russians and the U.S. have been doing this stuff since at least the late ‘60s. Over the Pole is the shortest distance between our respective heartlands.
I was actually refering to Russia’s investments in the artic , specifically over the past few years. So they’re going to protect that.

Was it empty? Kinda like steering a fresh grocery cart.
Could go longer because they ran out of Vodka
Da!

Must have a lot of bugs on the windshield after such a long flight.
20,000 km isn’t “around the world” either. More like a little less than halfway around the world.
the only bomb that wants a green card, then detonates your “marriage”
See any resemblance? Blackjack is faster and longer range, Lancer carries bigger load, can be refueled and, reportedly has smaller radar reflection and better at low altitude, terrain-following.
Six turning, four burning.
Jimmy Stewart & June Allyson - "Strategic Air Command", Baseball Field in those scenes is Al Lang Stadium in downtown Saint Petersburg (FL). The RATO takeoff in the B-47 was from Tampa's MacDill AFB and I'd like to see the discarded footage from that scene for the changes in Tampa over those years. Harry Morgan is great as the Flight Engineer on the B-36 and Frank Lovejoy as General Hawkes does a great Curtis LeMay WITH CIGAR!
Six turning and four burning.
Everything Russians build that is meant to fly looks like crap.
Through the B-36s life it only ever destroyed a toilet in Texas.
