There was a version on Syfy back in the 80s where they put another hour or so back in and made it a two part mini series. It made the story much more understandable.

no kidding! i don’t see how it’s possible that a remake won’t be worse, much worse ... the original Dune is an absolutely classic movie that is extremely unlikely to be improved upon ...
