The TSA and Security Theater: Understanding American Airport Security Following 9/11

Following the attacks of September 11th, Congress passed the Aviation and Transportation Security Act (ATSA), creating the Transportation Security Agency (TSA). The TSA replaced private security screening companies with one government agency. Since then, air travelers have bowed to pat downs, bans on water bottles and other inconvenient, intrusive procedures as the “new normal” at our nation’s airports. But does any of this make us safer?

It’s all part of the theater used to train the American public into meekly accepting demeaning subjugation.

Which was pretty obvious from the beginning when all the Middle easterners got a free pass while the rest of us white bread Americans got treated like criminals if we wanted to take a flight anywhere.

I’m fine with air travel safety. No crashes. No terrorists. No bombs
Assholes get removed. Etc

I will have to say that there have no hijacking since 9/11. I think someone tried in the early 2000s and the passengers beat the pulp out of him. But then again, it had nothing to do with TSA or their screening- just passengers not willing to take a chance that it wasn't a hijacking.

I think we would be safer if they encouraged us to carry sharp pointy things.

The TSA serves no useful purpose. It should be abolished.

What we on the conservative side are bad at doing is offering alternatives. So here is my question. Fine. Accept the premise. TSA sucks —. How would you or enhance positing they suck change security at the airport?

Absolutely. Like masks and (anti-)social distancing, it was one step to (a) test the willingness of the people to comply with stupid rules and intrusive government, and (b) get us used to it, and train us to snitch on those who won’t comply.

And every time this method works, the government becomes bolder and will up the ante, as people become weaker, more fearful, and more willing to turn in their neighbors.

When the take guns away, the ground will have been well-prepared.

TSA=Too stupid for Arbys

What TSA does not do- Effectively screen dangerous objects

What TSA does
Make Iwo Jima vet get out of his wheelchair and subject to metal screening ( embedded metal fragments) while waiving Fatima in full burka through

Steal out of inspected bags

What would you replace the TSA with? Private security would still do searches etc. The security bureaucracy would still exist and it would be run by airports, cities, states, the federal government, or all of the above.

No security at all might not be a good idea.

That’s simple: go back to the way it was with very little inconvenience to the passenger.

The only thing that needed to change as a result of 9/11 was attitude, and that happened that very day on Flight 91.

Before 9/11, the attitude was, “Let the highjackers take the plane, it will land somewhere, they will be paid ransom, and all will be well.”

Once it became clear than planes were now weapons, the attitude changed as was noted by an earlier poster. Thus, no other changes were required.

I couldn’t agree more. The TSA is like the little toy they get to use to try out all the ways they hope to make us feel dominated and insecure one day. Like 1984-style training for them, and conditioning for us.

We had security before, but it wan’t so intrusive. TSA hasn’t caught anyone or stopped any plots. And they “randomly” avoid checking Muslims. Why do we need it?
