For much of US history, New Orleans competed with New York for title of most metropolitan city, until the CW ended all of that.

Port of NY/NJ (two states) is 3rd on the list, according to Wikipedia, with the port of S. Louisiana shipping about 3 times the tonnage of NY/NJ. After hearing about the hard times NYC has fallen on, I'm afraid tonnage fall even lower?
