“Most Jamaicans are black”
Depends on who you talk to. The original Jamaicans came from South American from the Taíno people and later the Arawak tribes who were not the traditional black but South American native color, a tanned appearance. They died out from European diseases by 1600.
The blacks didn’t arrive on the island until after Columbus and were brought in by the Spanish prior to 1600 in relatively small numbers. It wasn’t until England defeated the Spanish in 1655 and discovered the sugar industry and brought in thousands of slaves to work it. Now the population in Jamaica is black 92.1%, mixed 6.1%, East Indian 0.8%, other 0.4%, unspecified 0.7%, latest estimate.
And with the mixed couplings on the island for a couple of hundred years, she could be black...could be. Or a Heinz 57 (sorry).
