RE: We need to do what some of the Scandinavian countries have done. Sure you’ll get government assistance to get your college degree.....but ONLY if you study economically useful things like Math, Science, Engineering, Business, Finance, Accounting, Tech, Medicine, etc etc.

OK, the Scandinavian colleges do not have liberal arts at all? And if they do, students who want to major in these “soft” courses are on their own in regards to tuition?

At least one of them (Denmark?) does that. They pay for all of a student’s college but limit the area of focus to useful things. If you want to study other subjects, you pay for it out of your own pocket.
