You nailed it. This is a huge deterrent to a lot of people.

If you use an electric car like a gas powered car, you will need a method to fill up in a matter of minutes or it’s just not usable. You have to be very careful to watch your energy usage so you don’t get stuck because the weather is too cold or you turned on feature that uses up the battery charge too quickly.

Running around town, showing off your shiny new toy or back and forth to work is probably not a problem if you charge every night like a smart phone. The problem comes in if you forget one night and run out on your way home from work. I guess you could do a partial charge. Personally I much more prefer being able to go from empty to full in a matter of a few minutes.

I’m not a big fan of electric cars as normal transportation, mostly based on my driving habits. For some people, it might be a very good transportation solution. Having said that, I think Tesla’s advances in battery technology can be a game changer for any battery operated device. To me, that is far more exciting than any electric car could be.
