The Democratic Party platform has been published in draft form, and it is a beauty. An openly racist document, it is largely an attack on white people. The platform mentions whites or whiteness 15 times, never in a positive light. I want to focus on just one of those references to alleged white supremacy:
Median incomes are lower and poverty rates are higher for Black Americans, Latinos, Native Americans, and some Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, compared to median white households.
But wait! Notice how they tried to slip that one by you: “some Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.” Why only “some,” in a land defined by white supremacy? There is, of course, a story here, one that the Democrats will never tell. These are how various ethnic groups ranked by median household income in the 2018 census. Whites come in 17th:

It's a manipulation of cognition - they are trying to reprogram the primitive mapmaking in humans' mental representations so that anyone not totally white will join the team.
It is the ultimate racism. it's so racist, like 'the big lie' they feel it will fly under the radar of anyone looking for racism or who may be unencumbered by an analytical thought process.
Anyone who has ANY resentment in life, who is also a human of hue (a 'hueman'?), they expect will latch on, join the 'Black' team. There's no doubt they want a race war, and they want to make sure the hue team gets as many to join as possible.
It SEEMS unlikely that successful just-a-little-hue cultures and people will be on board because ultimately this spells doom for the country and economy that has provided so much opportunity to kick ass and get out of their less than ideal countries. But ... who knows what resentments people hold, and the sociopaths amongst them will join purely for fun and profit.
23AndMe are doing that for them already. Just nationalize the database, and interpolate the approximate genetic makeup of non-participants from kinship relations. Like they do to catch the occasional murderer.

Why not just call the last line “American Americans” since we don’t get the benefit of an ethnically descriptive hyphen pre-pend?

Why do you think they had all different racial categories on the census forms.?
To find out where all the white people lived; it is easier to kill people when you know where they live.
Remember: the last government that took such an interest in the racial classification of its citizens eventually ended up sending a few races to the gas chambers.
Also, the 1940 census was used to find Japanese Americans so they could be sent to internment camps:

Those words sound so hollow these days.
They have always asked for race on the census form since the first one which listed all individuals (1850). The 1850 census did not provide the given names of slaves but still gave their race (B or M).
