I’ve actually been a big Skins’ fan my whole life.
This has been a real gut punch.
Huge part of my life and something I looked forward to all year. Gone. I’m done.
As for tickets..
There was about a 50 year stretch of sellouts at RFK and then FedEx but that ended a couple of years ago.
Disappointing teams and a poorly designed stadium that is not conveniently located along with all the other factors hurting pro-football attendance (ownership, cost of tickets, so many games available on TV, yes, politics) took a toll and I think it was already reaching a tipping point. Snyder had been trying to build a new stadium for years. No place to put it in the DMV or too many political/cost hurdles.
THOUSANDS of seats were removed from the upper deck of the stadium and they still weren’t selling out.
Over the last few years the Skins have lost their home field advantage. Look at almost any game in the last few years and it was +40% fans of the other team. The Skins never had PSLs except for the Club Level. There is nothing making people hold on to their season tickets. You can buy game day tickets for far under face value. Why commit to 8 regular and 2 preseason games at full cost when you can get game day tickets at less than half the cost?
Now that the remaining true fans, and we were passionate, have been told that we were just racists all along, I’m not so sure who would be so fired up to go to, let alone pay for, the games. The Raiders, Rams and Chargers have all moved in the last few years. The team formerly known as the Redskins may be joining them.
