Now, I have a few questions here: Is this some new part of state or federal guidlines we haven't been enlightened with? Is making such an absurd request (especially the part about my exact physical location) even legal? What are they gonna do, send tracker to verify I am where I say I am? What if I tell them I'm there and I'm sitting at home in my underwear? Could there be any ramifications if I think they're blowing smoke up my ass and decide to sleep in? Are they using Stingray or some GPS app to triangulate my cell signal? Could they ding my insurance with a missed appointment fee over a PHONE CALL in the wrong place? Thoughts.............

Sounds like the doctor is licensed in Georgia and doesn’t want to get accused of unlawful practice in Alabama. Probably motivated by his insurer or by a warning that came out after some legal issue.

That’s... Odd.
Honestly, Google (or whatever search engine you prefer) an address and call, then tell them the address and describe the building (map street view) if they ask.
I’ve had phone consultations with Mayo in MN, and I live in Chicago. The whole thing sounds ridiculous.
Or, just call and say you won’t put up with the request unless they give you a REALLY good reason; like a legal one. If you’re five minutes out, drive five minutes and treat yourself to something in the area if there’s a pressing need for you to cross state lines.
It might be a rule specific to the state of GA. It must be a liability thing on the doc’s part if it is.

They will get reimbursed more if you are in GA? That’s my first guess. Has nothing to do with covid, but your insurance.

It’s an insurance thing. Go ahead and do it, bro. Insurance does not cross state lines.

My guess is that the rigamarole is due to their medical licensing not being valid for services delivered across state lines. You can drive and get a procedure done out of your state, but they cannot deliver services out of state, which, arguably, is what happens when they call their patient at his out of state residence. If this seems idiotic, it is.

Can’t practice in your state?
