People who think Trump is a celebrity president, or that Reagan was a celebrity President, do not understand what happened in 1980 or 2016.
People like me, long time Reagan conservatives, have a natural aversion to celebrities - even the ones that stay on their lanes.
Celebrities that decide to go into politics are a joke to people like me - until theyre not.
My point is that Reagans voter appeal had zero to do with him once having been a Hollywood actor. Same with Donald Trump being whatever he was in show business
I laughed about Trump running in the beginning but by the end of 2015, I stopped laughing because I heard what he had to say and I liked it. Trump dared to fight against the Progressive Left. Reagan dared to fight against the Progressive Left. Thats what their appeal was to the silent majority - who are threatened by the progressive movement but need leadership to resist it.
Kanye West might be doing the same thing Reagan and Trump did - transcend from celebrity to statesman. And sure, name recognition helps.
But this idea that any celebrity can do it is mistaken.
The Rock wont become President. He is not going up against the Progressive Left - so be wont appeal to the silent majority. And he isnt an extreme enough Marxist to win over the Left. Hes not black enough, not female enough, not gay enough and not angry enough.
He was two-time governor of the most populous State in the Union.
