I have liberal friends who are doctors. They brag about having their own stash of HCQ for themselves and their families in case they are hit by COVID-19. Meanwhile, they have no problem deriding DJT for touting HCQ. I don’t know how they can live with their own hypocrisy.

I believe your fantastic story. How can doctors take HCQ, yet deride President Trump for recommending it?

Liberalism seems to be grounded in emotion. At an emotive level they have taken sides - and that's that.

Many liberals can solve day to day problems. However on matters that have an ideological aspect, they have lost their capacity to reason.

Some of the problem lies in mandated views. You must believe this. You can't believe that. You must believe in evolution. You must not be a racist. It's an interesting pairing because, early on, evolution and racism were paired together.

One reason to believe in evolution was a consideration of the races. In Darwin's time it was true that the sun never set on the British empire. Britain, Europe, the United States and Australia, were so far beyond the peoples of Africa and Asia. It seemed to many that we had direct evidence that some races were more evolved than others.

I do not believe that biological differences between races are very great. This might be a valid academic question. Is there an academy where it can be asked? Few, if any. You MUST believe in evolution. You MUST NOT be a racist. Mandates such as these short-circuit rational thinking.

Another problem is a complete reliance on intellectual authority. If and “an expert says,” or “science says,” then all reasoning stops. They simply check their brains at the door. They'll pick them up as they leave (the conversation).
